Summer brings many storms, sometimes damaging ones. And occasionally you\u2019ll hear about a tree falling due to a lightning strike. Unfortunately, trees can cause damage to your home if close enough. So if it does fall on your home, what do you do?<\/p>\n

1. Carefully escape property and call fire department<\/strong>
\nBefore you do anything else, make sure everyone gets out of the house using the safest route possible. Once you escape properly and safely, call the police and fire department to inspect the area, make sure there are no down wires, sparks, or other hazards.\u00a0We know it hurts to sit back and not do anything, but removing a tree from your property can be really dangerous. Wait for the pros who have the qualifications and experience necessary to get the job done right.<\/p>\n

2. Contact your insurance company<\/strong>
\nNext, you\u2019ll want to call your insurance company. It a tree strikes your home, your homeowner\u2019s insurance policy should cover it. What\u2019s even better is that they will also usually agree to cover the cost of the tree removal process.\u00a0You will want to take pictures all around your home for your insurance claim and your own personal records. Try to snap some shots of every angle – even inside your home and after the tree is removed.<\/p>\n

\nOnce you\u2019ve taken care of safety and insurance, call your roofing contractor to fix your broken roof. Whether it\u2019s small or large damage control, your property will need to be re-covered.<\/p>\n
